Why use UNDERFLOOR HEATING?

There are a host of design features and benefits that occur from choosing underfloor heating.

  1. It has been proven that underfloor heating is more cost effective - energy saving from 15-40% can be achieved.
  2. There are benefits in aesthetics and labour saving as you can design your home to suit your needs rather than to design to the restraints given by radiator positioning and sizes.
  3. Floors are easier to clean and wet floors dry very quickly.
  4. Discoloration of paintwork and peeling of paper above radiators is avoided whilst also providing the facility for the ease of redecorating.
  5. Every floor area of your home can be fully utilized giving great benefits in terms of space and economics.
  6. Underfloor heating is more hygienic as there is no dust collected on radiator services the system will help to reduce house dust mites as the moisture content is too low, to support dust mites.
  7. Radiant heat is extremely comfortable as the highest comfort levels are reached at an even temperature throughout.
  8. Radiator systems can be noisy unlike under floor heating systems there is no annoying ticking as pipes across joists expand in floor voids.
  9. Systems are very easy to control as the small temperature between the floor surface and the air above means the system is practically self regulating.

Underfloor heating

Underfloor Heating (Hot Water)

  • Systems, based on high quality under floor plastic pipe, such as the multi-layer pipe, now account for over 60% of some European heating markets
  • The warm air convects from the floor surface losing approximately 2 degrees centigrade at 2.0 meters above the floor, which makes the systems ideal for all ceiling heights
  • Underfloor heating from the whole floor area of the house gently warms the air above, eliminating cold spots
  • Underfloor heating reduces energy consumption by using low water temperatures

Layout
The under floor pipe is laid at 200-300mm centres dependent upon design. Care must be taken to protect the pipe work whilst installing the screed. Finally the floor finish is laid. The heating works well with almost any floor finish; tiles, carpets, timber floors, plastic etc. The floor coverings and the adhesive must be suitable for the temperatures that underfloor heating will provide, the maximum temperature they need to resist is 40°C.

Underfloor Heating (Electrical)

With Raychem Floor Heating solutions there is no need to add height to the floor. Systems range from 3 mm to 13 mm in thickness and are suitable for all floor coverings.

New free design service
Raychem offers a smart and free service, resulting in a detailed professional design. Based upon your project drawing you will receive a complete offer including:

  • Project list with all relevant project data
  • Detailed bill of materials
  • Installation plan with circuit lengths of the recommended heating products in 2D and 3D
  • A recommendation of suitable building materials
  • Building materials selector: for a perfectly finished warm floor Raychem systems have been tested with building materials from the leading manufacturers in Europe.

Features and Benefits summary

Underfloor Heating has proven itself to be comfortable, reliable in operation and a good-value solution to heating modern buildings. As the maintenance-free pipe work or heating cable elements are included in the floor construction, the usual constraints imposed by radiators disappear.
