GSHP - Ground Source Heat Pumps & Energy Recovery
Renewable Heating & Cooling Solutions
In this current climate of increased energy
conservation requirements and energy costs, renewable energy systems
are the way forward and heat pump technology can offer substantial
savings in energy and CO2 emissions, in both commercial and domestic
applications. ENER•G can provide heating and cooling solutions
through a broad range of heat pump technologies.
ENER•G have achieved official certification for their
expertise in delivering renewable heat pump technologies. They are
recognised as an approved contractor for quality of design, supply
and installation which is in line with the standards set by the
Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). ENER•G is also a member
of the UK Ground Source Heat Pump Association.
Heat Pump Technology Principles
Heat pumps are able to produce more energy than
they consume by using a refrigeration cycle to absorb heat from the
environment and raise it to a suitable level for heating.
Ground Source Heat Pumps
The temperature underground remains relatively
stable compared to that at the surface. GSHPs (Ground Source Heat
Pumps) are able to use this heat to deliver heating/cooling to
buildings in a very efficient manner. Heat pumps can vary widely in
style and can deliver heating or cooling via water or air
distribution systems including underfloor heating, radiators, ducted
air systems and fan coils.
Water to water systems produce warm or chilled water
for use in heating/cooling internal water systems.
Water to air systems produce warm or cold air which can
then be ducted throughout the building.
Heat pumps are particularly ideal for new-build
projects where ground loop pipe can more easily be installed.
Gas Absorption Heat Pumps
Gas absorption heat pumps (GAHPs) use natural gas
to power the heat pump and can be used as a direct replacement for
gas-fired traditional or condensing boilers for the production of
heating and domestic hot water. Air Source Heat
Pumps
Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) absorb energy from
the outside air to provide heating, cooling and hot water. They may
be installed externally or internally and are available as either
air to water or air to air systems. Water Loop
Heat Pumps
Unitary water to air heat pumps are positioned in
each space requiring temperature control. They use the water loop as
a reservoir for extracting heat (in the heating mode) or heat
rejection (in the cooling mode). The principle benefit is the
ability for bi-directional heat/coolth exchange (simultaneous heat
recovery) and the ability to transfer energy. Water loop heat pumps
are typically used for water to air systems.
System Combinations
Where heat pumps are combined with CHP the
electricity generated by the CHP drives the electric heat pump and
this combined output of the heat pump and CHP satisfies the
building’s heating and cooling requirements. ENER·G are a leading
manufacturer of CHP equipment.
