Daikin Chiller Technology
At the heart of Daikin chiller Technology is a compressor. The Single
Screw Compressor
Daikin high-capacity chillers comprise a semi-hermetic single stepless
screw compressor meeting the most exacting requirements in terms of
capacity (stepless control from 25% to 100% on a single compressor),
performance and maintenance.
Extremely reliable over long periods of operation, this system only
requires inspection after 40,000 hours of use, which is equivalent to
4.5 years of continuous operation. It has been developed to operate with
refrigerants R-134a and R-407C.
Characteristics:
- Compact, simple yet robust construction
- Extremely low step load, with axial & radical forces properly
balanced thanks to symmetrical compression achieved using a single
rotor & two vacuum rotating gates
- Hard-wearing gates made of polymer material resulting in reduced
frictions & thus greatly reduced wear reduced losses of power
- No oil pump required – the compressor screw is chilled & sealed
from the rest of the installation using oil injection & refrigerant,
therefore providing a constant operating temperature throughout the
system’s complete services life & reduced play of the rotor for more
accurate & efficient compression
- Ultra-low vibration level, thus resulting in reduced system wear
& a low sound level during operation (integrated in-compressor
silent operation)
- Easy access to both compressor & safety devices
- Star-delta starter with low start-up current as standard
A new generation of heat pumps, EWYD260-380(kW) has been designed
with all of the best technology currently available: besides the single
screw compressors, R134a refrigerant and Variable frequency drivers
(inverters), also all of the other components are selected among the
most efficient and hi-level available choices: like electronic expansion
valve, high efficiency shell and tube evaporators etc.
The Swing Compressor
Inverter technology is also used in the new mini chiller (EWA/YQ005-007(kW).
The swing compressor is an innovative design by Daikin, with fewer
moving parts allowing smoother and more reliable operation with low
vibration and noise levels. The newly developed high efficiency motor
further reduces energy consumption resulting in high energy cost
savings.
The Scroll Compressor
The smaller Daikin chillers are designed around a Daikin scroll
hermetic compressor. This compressor has been developed throughout its
service life.

maximum reliability
- Constant compression guaranteeing low energy consumption
- Increased compression efficiency thanks to the absence of
volumetric re-expansion
- Low sound level
- Low starting current
DICN Chiller Network
With the DICN system, it is possible to control up to 4 chillers.
Different chillers can be mixed through each other, as long as they stay
within 1 of the 3 groups as mentioned below:
Watercooled chillers: EWWD120-540MBYNN, EWAQ080-260DAYNN &
EWYQ080-250DAYNN
Aircooled chillers: EWAP110-540MBYNN, EWAD120-340MBYNN
Remote condenser water chillers - cooling only: EWLD120-540MBYNN
The D.I.C.N. option allows simultaneous operation of up to 4 chillers as
if they were a single unit, in order to deliver the required cooling
capacity. This results in precise and efficient capacity control.
It is also possible to define units as manual or automatic standby units
which is useful for back up purposes guaranteeing reliable operation of
the chiller plant.
The chillers, grouped in a D.I.C.N., can also be integrated in a
Building Management system (B.M.S.), using the B.M.S. options. It is
possible to reduce sound levels e.g. during night time, by limitation of
the capacity
of the system.
For energy saving, it is possible to work with dual setpoints (e.g. a
lower or higher setpoint during night time).
Standard Anti-Corrosion Treatment
As standard condensers for air cooled chillers are given
anti-corrosion treatment. This treatment significantly increases
resistance to acid rain and saline corrosion.
