Introduction Established in 1983, WLS
are one of the UK's leading full service providers of specialist high quality
security solutions. Our objective is to be recognised by our clients as the leading
provider of security systems within the domestic, commercial and public sectors.
Access Control Systems: The company is an approved installer of Northern
ESG (Engineered Systems Group) products. WLS is one of only a select few companies
to be awarded this status. Access control is the process of electronically
controlling access through doors and turnstiles. At its’ most basic, a normally
locked door can only be accessed by using a card or fob which has to be presented
to a local card reader. Systems controlled from a central pc can operate over
1,000 doors and can be linked to remote sites over WAN. Card readers include swipe,
proximity and smart systems in addition to the latest biometric fingerprint and
retina models. Systems can also be used to operate a cashless environment. Northern
EGS software includes a photo id badging module, enabling staff details and picture
to be stored and printed onto the access card. Links can be made with cctv equipment
to capture images as doors are accessed. CCTV Systems: The increasing
technological advances in cctv, makes it ever more important to choose a company
with up-to-date product knowledge and in-depth installation experience. A
cctv system consists of one or more video cameras in a ‘closed circuit’ which
is not intended for public broadcast, but for selected users. WLS offers both
traditional static cameras and the latest joystick-controlled, high-speed dome
cameras with 30x optical zoom lenses and low-light capabilities. Linked to the
latest generation of digital multiplexer/hard disk recorders, these systems have
the ability to record at the rate of six frames per camera, per second. They can
store up to 6 months of video to hard disk, which is available for instant recall
with no degradation of image quality. WLS has also installed Cisco radio networks
in situations where linking outlying buildings, up to 3 miles away, proved otherwise
impossible. Using IP cameras and multiplexers, the video signal can be carried
over the network at a rate of 11kb back to a central control room. Other possibilities
include remote monitoring of sites from the company’s central station. Any site
fitted with cctv can be monitored remotely. Electronic detectors are installed
to monitor the site. In the event of unauthorised activity, the central monitoring
station will be alerted to the situation and can observe it via the cctv cameras,
even talking to the intruders over an optional public address system. This type
of set up is increasingly installed where the cost of manned guarding becomes
prohibitive. Door Entry Systems: WLS has installed door entry systems,
controlling access to over 300 flats, using porters switchboards, digital dial
entrance panels, and multiple entrances. As an approved installer of BPT products,
WLS are able to incorporate the aesthetics, practicality and ease-of-use that
BPT’s products offer. Systems can be audio-only or an audio/video mix, allowing
sight of, and conversation with, a caller before allowing admittance. Monitors
are available in monochrome and colour formats. The new Nova colour monitor has
been particularly well received by specifiers and end users alike. The latest
Targha panel is a sleek, contemporary panel available in a range of colour options,
enabling the panel to complement any interior surrounding or architectural style.
Coded and proximity access control can be incorporated into panels to provide
an integrated entrance panel. BPT systems can also be combined with access control
systems, traffic barriers and cctv systems to give an integrated site-security
system, if required. Local authority installations are a specialised sector of
the door entry market in which, WLS is a market leader. Systems tend to be highly
vandal resistant, extremely durable and are installed to strict guidelines.
Fire
Systems: Constant attention is required to minimise the adverse impact of
fire. Because of the speed and totality of the destructive forces of fire, it
constitutes one of the more serious threats. WLS has more than 12 years’ experience
in the design, installation and servicing of fire alarm systems and is an approved
installer of Ziton equipment. The company supplies and installs: heat and smoke
detection systems, flame detectors, smoke beams, air-sampling and wire-free systems,
automatic door and ventilation controls, and audio and visual warning systems,
in addition to remote monitoring and fire brigade signalling systems. A full
remote monitoring service is available via WLS’s dedicated central station to
ensure instantaneous fire brigade response in the event of an activation. WLS
also offers a full maintenance and repair service for all types of systems and
complete quarterly servicing, to BS 5839:Part 1:2002, on behalf of some of the
UK’s largest landlords. Gates/Moving Barriers: WLS is an approved FAAC
installer with experience in this field covering both the commercial and domestic
markets. A blue-chip client base includes Fidelity Investments, Prudential and
The Crown Estates. Gate automation: electrically operated mechanisms,
including remote control operation, automated operation that enables almost all
gates to be operated automatically. WLS has partnered with FAAC who has established
a worldwide reputation as a market leader in the field of automatic gate, door,
barrier, pedestrian control and parking systems. FAAC gate automation equipment
includes ram or underground operators fitted to swing gates and rack or pinion
drives fitted for sliding gates. Traffic barriers are available in a number
of variants according to the road width and the required traffic flow. Whether
used in airports, car parks or office buildings, traffic barriers prevent vehicles
from entering without proper authorisation, efficiently managing entry without
hampering busy traffic flow. Rising kerb barriers are tough, reliable and
uncompromising. Hydraulically operated, the barriers provide an ideal solution
against unwanted vehicle access. Most gates and barriers controls can be interfaced
with traffic lights to ensure safe passage during entrance and exit. For safety,
beam detectors can be installed across the entrance way or underground induction
loops which act as metal detectors, slot cut into the roadway. Radio transmitters
are usually supplied to operate the system but door entry or access control systems
may also be connected.
Intruder Systems: WLS intruder systems are primarily
designed to detect any unauthorised presence in an area and raise an alarm. An
effective security system should be bespoke and designed accordingly to reduce,
if not eliminate, potential risks. WLS also considers day-to-day business use
of the premises or the occupant’s lifestyle, so that the system remains first
and foremost cost-effective, yet user-friendly, simple and trouble free. Wired
systems are more commonly fitted, but radio-based systems can be installed where
cabling proves unsightly. With continued pressure from police forces to reduce
false-alarm rates, WLS has put in place the necessary design and installation
measures to ensure their systems are amongst the most reliable available. WLS
offers a full remote monitoring service, providing 24 hour, 365 days a year monitoring,
not only for alarm and fault signals, but also sequential, audio or visual verification
systems. This ensures a prompt response by police, keyholders or service engineers.
WLS is approved NSI (NACOSS), ISO 9002 and is SAFE contractor approved.
