Bathroom Lights
Great care needs to be taken when choosing bathroom
lighting as the regulations are strict concerning the type of lighting
that you can use. For general illumination use either
downlights for their colour, or a flush ceiling fitting to suit the
decor. Portable lights are not permitted in bathrooms so for mood
lighting use ceiling mounted spotlights aimed at interesting features.
The bathroom mirror deserves special attention and a diffused glass
light either side will give a good general illumination where it is
needed. The alternative is a halogen downlight from the ceiling, or a
fluorescent strip over the mirror. The latest generation of mirrors
incorporate lights in the fittings themselves. This is a very effective
way of generating an even light whilst improving safety.
Lights designed specifically for showers must be carefully fitted by a
qualified electrician according to the IEE Wiring Regulations (16th
Edition). Bathroom and some outdoor lights are classified by an IP
Rating, which stands for 'Ingress Protection' and is always followed by
two numbers referring to the level of protection offered. It is
important to choose fittings with the correct rating according to where
they are to be sited within the bathroom.

Downlights

Specifically designed for use in bathrooms, shower cubicles, communal
baths and showers, (zones 1,2,& 3 where water jets are likely), kitchens
and exterior soffits. Cut-out 72mm dia, overall 85mm. Recess depth
125mm. requires low voltage transformer and 35w low voltage dichroic
lamp (not supplied). This fitting can be installed as a mains version by
simply changing the lamp holder for a GU10LH lamp holder and making sure
you use the correct lamp (LAPAR16).
