About Wooden Tops
Ltd
We supply made-to-measure and off the shelf solid hardwood worktops
for domestic and commercial use. We specialise in hardwood timbers and can offer
a choice from Ash, Maple, Cherry, Mahogany, Iroko, Oak, Beech, Walnut and occasionally
the more exotic. Our machining services allow for intricate planning for appliances,
sinks and wall insets, or we can supply basic blanks made to your specifications.
Our projects range from one-off kitchens to major developments requiring several
hundred items, all of which can be manufactured to order. A fully nationwide distribution
service using specialist carriers ensures the safe arrival of all worktops.
Services
Every kitchen, restaurant or bar is different. Our complete range of fabrication
services allows us to machine the worktops to intricate designs incorporating
sink and hob cut-outs, circular tables, elaborate curves and many other features
including knobs, legs and special profiles. We work closely with interior designers,
architects and project managers to produce their ideas on time and within budget.
Hardwood Trees
Woodentops worktops are made from hardwood trees,
a fully renewable source of raw material, which must be harvested regularly in
order to maintain the vital balance of growth between new, young trees and mature,
established trees. It is this balance of growth rate which is meant when we hear
of sustainability and properly managed forests. If trees were not cropped in this
way, our forests and their eco-systems would eventually become unable to fulfil
their role in supplying the world’s oxygen. Trees store carbon in their leaves,
wood and roots. They respire Oxygen. Using more timber, planting more trees and
using these trees before they become too old are important means to help reduce
global warming.
We at Woodentops are committed to sustainable, properly monitored,
forest management initiatives. Trees live longer than any other higher life form.
Some still living are thousands of years old. The first to evolve, 275 million
years ago, were the evergreen softwoods, or conifers. Hardwoods, broad-leaved,
flowering and fruit-bearing trees, appeared 140 million years later, but were
less resistant to climate change than the softwoods, which now make up large forests
in the northern hemisphere.
The names softwood and hardwood refer to differences
in the structure of the wood, rather than density. Softwoods bear cones and have
needles or scale-like leaves. Their seeds are not enclosed in a pod, like hardwood
seeds. These conifers supply most of the world’s timber. Hardwoods, which are
broad-leaved and produce fruits and flowers, are deciduous, meaning that in temperate
areas they shed their leaves in autumn. Their seeds are enclosed in seed cases
with either one or two lobes, monocotyledoneae and dicotyledoneae. Most commercial
hardwoods belong to this second group.
Classic Range
The Classic
range is a traditional worktop made from full length planks, put together in much
the same way that solid wooden tabletops have been made for centuries. The timber
is hand selected for character, colour and grain pattern to produce a truly individual
piece of furniture. Available in Ash, Beech, Black Walnut, Cherry, Iroko, Mahogany,
Maple and Oak.
Standard Range
The Standard range utilises smaller
pieces of timber than the Classic range, giving a block style worktop with a very
affordable quality finish. These worktops look great in all situations and are
made in lengths of up to 4.2m. Available in Prime Beech, Rustic Beech, Black Walnut,
Iroko, Mahogany, Maple and Oak.
Gallery Range
The Gallery range
offers the most unique hardwood worktops you will find. Entirely made by hand,
the worktops incorporate a dazzling array of grains, with different woods combined
in the same worktop. The choice is yours! These worktops are for the wood lover
who wants a dramatic, modern look for their home.
