BY HONEYWELL NEWS RELEASE – GEPR022
Swift Fire and Security – First in Fire Safety
In 2002, the Fire and Rescue Services (F&RS) responded to 279,000 false alarms
from automatic fire detection systems. It is estimated that 98% of the responses
made by the F&RS did not require any fire fighting action at the scene. The
impact on the F&RS of responding to this number of false alarms is an enormous
drain on resources, both financially and in the utilization of life saving
personnel and equipment.
With the introduction of the new Fire & Rescue Services Act 2004, the Chief Fire
Officers Association (CFOA) has introduced its guideline policy for the
management of false alarms. The new policy came into force in April 2005.
To promote awareness of the new policy, Swift Fire and Security in association
with Gent by Honeywell and the regional Fire and Rescue Services, has launched a
series of seminars around the UK. These seminars clearly explain the CFOA policy
and its implications on the fire industry and importantly, on the new
responsibilities of the building owners.
The first of Swift’s seminars was held in Lumley Castle in the North East and
was attended by representatives from over 50 corporate and government
organisations from across the area.
Further seminars are being held at the following venues:
Location Date Venue
Birmingham 23rd September 2005 National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham
Bristol 14th October 2005 Arnos Court Hotel, Bristol
Loughton 20th October 2005 Marriott Hotel, Waltham Abbey

London 11th November 2005 Stamford Bridge, Chelsea
