New Standards in Lightning Protection: Structural
Protection
Seminar Description:
The new British Standards for lightning protection has substantial implications
for risk assessment and equipment selection. This course will take you through
the criteria and the process of complex assessments that will have to be
undertaken. The course takes the format of an interactive presentation, and
lasts approximately half a day, depending on client requirements. Questions and
discussion are encouraged throughout. Literature will be provided to take away.
The course detail includes:
• Lightning levels and characteristics
• Summary of the main differences between BS EN 62305 and BS 6651
• Introduction to the risk assessment
• Definitions of the classes of structural lightning protection systems
• The application of surge protection devices in protecting structures
• Isolated and non-isolated systems
• Designing an air termination using the protective angle, rolling sphere and
mesh method
• Down conductor systems
• Earth-termination systems
