CentraLine from Honeywell has launched its SmartDrive Compact inverter for HVAC applications, which features an extremely compact size, easy installation and many technical innovations. Its small size means the SmartDrive Compact offers a high degree of flexibility during installation while saving space in cabinets. Inverters (also known as frequency converters, variable-speed drives or variable frequency drives) permit stepless speed regulation of an electric motor.

Devices using power such as ventilators, pumps and compressors are often used without speed regulation. Valves or throttle valves are usually used in these cases for regulating volume flow rates, while the motors operate at full speed. However, as HVAC systems seldom require the maximum flow rate, a system without speed regulation wastes considerable amounts of energy most of the time. Control Valves & Actuators

Control valves and actuators are fundamental to every HVAC system for temperature control by controlling the medium flow through a heating or cooling coil. Honeywell’s range of control valves for HVAC applications include 2 way, 3 way mixing, 3 way diverting, 4 Port, 3 way rotary, 4 way rotary, pressure independent control valves (PICV) and flow regulators.

The control capability of a valve depends on the flow rate and pressure drop requirement, and is indicated by a parameter known as valve authority. A very high pressure drop leads to cavitation and higher energy losses, where as a very low pressure drop when compared to the coil pressure drop will lead to poor control. It is recommended that the valve authority is around 50% for the optimum control and energy conservation.

Honeywell actuators work using open protocol controllers and are available for various signal inputs, power inputs, runtimes etc, to suit almost any control requirement.

Pilot Operated Diaphragm Control Valves

The 300 Series valve range provide a comprehensive choice of valves for a range of applications (see technical pages for details on variants available). All variants are available in sizes DN40 - DN450 with flanges at PN16 (standard) or PN25 (special request). The 300 Series valves feature a Stainless Steel seat with pilot regulator for precise control down to very low flow, so there is no need to undersize the valve.
