Artemide - History Timeline

Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi, President, the Artemide Group operates through 24 controlled and related companies and a distribution network that includes almost 60 single-brand showrooms in major cities all around the world. The Artemide products are distributed in 83 different Countries, with 5 manufacturing plants in Italy, France, Hungary, and the US, 2 glassworks, and 2 R&D facilities in Italy and in France.

In Milan Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza founded Artemide; the first lamp is born, Alfa, designed by Sergio Mazza.

1965

Polluce is born, lamp designed by Enzo Mari in collaboration with Anna Fasolis.

1967

Compasso d’Oro Award for the "Eclisse" Lamp, designed by Vico Magistretti.

1972

1972

Richard Sapper designs the lamp with a halogen light source, Tizio, which through the years becomes a symbol of Design worldwide.

1976

After the success of Polluce, Enzo Mari designs another successful product, Aggregato, in collaboration with Giancarlo Fassina.

1980

1980

Artemide opens there first branch in the U.S.A.

1987

Artemide launches into the market "Tolomeo", lamp which through the years becomes a symbol of the "made in Italy", world wide.

Compasso d’Oro Award for the "Tolomeo" lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina.

Compasso d’Oro Award for "Career Achievements".

The Artemide Vision: the light at the service of man and his needs. The patented "Metamorfosi" project is born.
