Natural Roofing Slate Phyllite

Products
SSQ offers slate for roofing and phyllite, a geologically similar
rock, for roofing, flooring and architectural stonework.
As a material, slate needs no introduction; it’s an ideal material for
roofing and has been used, around the world, for thousands of years.
Forged by nature, it has ‘beauty-and-the-beast’ characteristics:
naturally beautiful but able to withstand nature at its harshest. SSQ
markets roofing slate under a number of trade marks; the Del Carmen®,
Matacouta® and Domiz® brands being the most widely known.
Geologically, phyllite is very closely related to slate, sharing and
surpassing its essential characteristics. Phyllite is stronger and more
resilient than slate, qualities which make it an exceptional natural
material: an aspirational roofing slate and an eye-catching choice for
floors, cladding and other hard surfaces. SSQ markets its phyllite
roofing slates and architectural stone under the Riverstone® trade mark.
Over the last 25 years, SSQ has developed close partnerships with some
of the world’s most prestigious quarries, supplying slate from them on
an exclusive basis. In addition, SSQ is the principal shareholder of La
Florida Quarry in the San Luis region of central Argentina, the source
of SSQ Riverstone® roofing slate and architectural stone.
Quality
SSQ protects its reputation for supplying premium quality products by
playing an active role in all aspects of the quality control process,
from extraction through to installation.
The company’s relationship with the quarries allows it to closely
monitor both the rock that’s extracted and the products created from it.
The material’s natural quality together with SSQ’s quality assurance
systems allow a variety of product guarantees to be given.
All SSQ’s roofing slates are tested in accordance with BSEN 12326 and
are CE marked. (It should be noted that CE marking is not an indication
of quality, only that it has been tested in accordance with BSEN 12326;
the quality of the product has to be assessed from the test results.
Most of SSQ’s products meet or exceed those criteria needed to achieve
France’s ‘Marque NF’ (Norme Française, a mark of quality issued by AFNOR;
the Association Française de Normalisation) which are internationally
acknowledged as being the most rigorous performance standards for
slate).
The specification and quality of SSQ’s products have led to their being
approved for use by many of the UK’s conservation agencies including:
English Heritage, Historic Scotland, Cadw and the Snowdonia National
Park Authority.

diminishing courses); Saltsjö-Boo villa, Stockholm (SSQ Riverstone®
