Bricks

Hanson’s range is diverse offering a full spectrum of design solutions - from colour matching to legacy housing stock, to bold colour combinations employed in striking contemporary designs. A wide range of special shapes is also available combining aesthetic appeal with architectural versatility.

In response to the demands of architects seeking greater variation and flexibility, Hanson can now offer Red Bank’s Lockclad, terracotta rainscreen cladding. A range of modular units which are produced in standard and non-standard sizes are also available. Modular units provide a visual appearance that is quite distinct from traditional brickwork. These units are being used on many public and commercial buildings to achieve a ‘tiled’ effect, often with continuous bed and perpend joints as opposed to the standard stretcher bond of construction.

Blocks - Aircrete Blocks, Aggregate Blocks, Concrete Blocks

Hanson is a market leader in the manufacture and supply of aircrete blocks under the Thermalite brand. Thermalite blocks offer high compressive strength and lightness for handling. Their micro-cellular structure provides excellent thermal insulation, resistance to air seepage and moisture penetration. A wide range of Thermalite solutions are available to meet the thermal requirements of Building Regulations, offering low U-Values with the added benefit of long-term durability. Trenchblock Tongue and Groove is a revolutionary thermal block for solid foundation walls with interlocking tongue and groove joints at each end that need no mortar. Thermalite blocks are also made from up to 80% recycled materials, and achieve an ‘A’ rating in the Green Guide to Specification.

Hanson also manufactures a range of lightweight and dense aggregate blocks, to suit a variety of applications. Aggregate blocks are a robust product offering high compressive strength and excellent sound resistance.

Innovative Building Systems

A result of Hanson’s drive for innovation is the Wonderwall cladding system.

The Wonderwall composite panel system comprises a clay brick slip finish attached to a backing panel / carrier sheet which in turn is adhered to an Insulation board.

Wonderwall cleverly combines the advantages of modern construction techniques with the appeal of traditional brickwork. It can be installed faster than traditionally built masonry to a higher level of quality and is suitable for use as a durable, decorative and thermal insulating finish to external vertical walls. Existing or new build structures that use masonry, dense concrete, modular units, timber or metal frames are all suitable for fixing.

Product Services Department

Hanson offers a technical service providing direct help on technical brick and block issues. The team of full-time advisers receive masonry-related enquiries, primarily received as black and white drawings and processes them as brickwork details through to colour graphics.

Using the latest software, it is possible for architects to supplement their drawings with imagery that illustrates the completed project with details, brick panels and alternative mortar colours. These are returned in a highly polished and professional format suitable for presentation directly to clients.
