Dow Building Solutions offers insulation that supports construction of efficient, high performance buildings and helps meet guidance set by the Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM as well as Passivhaus construction standards.

The company’s STYROFOAM™ blue extruded polystyrene foam has a uniform closed cell structure which provides excellent insulation performance, together with high compressive strength and water resistance for long term durability. It can be cut with standard tools, and is not easily damaged if dropped or walked on.

STYROFOAM-A uses carbon dioxide as a blowing agent. The Ozone Depletion Potential is 0 and the Global Warming Potential (GWP) is less than 5.

Floor Insulation

FLOORMATE™ is the STYROFOAM solution for insulating floors, and is ideal for ground-bearing concrete floors and suspended floors e.g. beam and block. By including in the floor construction a layer of thermal insulation continuous with that in the rest of the building envelope, heat loss is reduced and thermal bridges at the junction of the floors and walls are avoided.

FLOORMATE comes in a range of compressive strengths and design loads (that load which will give a maximum compression of 2% over 50 years - BS EN 1606), meaning that a floor can be designed to perform thermally and structurally over its lifetime with complete confidence. The awarding-winning 300-A, 500-A and 700-A FLOORMATE products are available to support floor construction across the spectrum from residential to commercial buildings.

Inverted Flat Roof Insulation

One of the most effective methods of insulating a flat roof is to install the insulation on the top of the waterproof layer, creating a so-called inverted roof. This form of construction protects the waterproof layer from temperature variations and mechanical damage, and also cuts heat loss through the roof. ROOFMATE™ SL-A is the STYROFOAM solution for insulating inverted roofs on concrete decks.

The award-winning ROOFMATE MinK System is a unique development from Dow Building Solutions, bringing together ROOFMATE SL-A and a vapour-permeable separation layer, ROOFMATE MK. The rainwater cooling effect (caused by rainwater flowing between the insulation and waterproofing membrane) requires an increase in insulation thickness in order to meet BS EN ISO 6946. However, this increase can be substantially reduced by using the ROOFMATE MinK system, which helps to minimise the heat loss due to rainwater cooling and therefore the amount of insulation required.

Finally, ROOFMATE LG-A - an insulation board with an integral 10mm thick modified mortar topping - is ideally suited to both parapet insulation and standard roof insulation as a lightweight solution.

Insulating Structures Below Ground

PERIMATE™ DI-A is the STYROFOAM solution for externally insulating basement walls. Its ship-lapped edges ensure continuity of insulation, whilst vertical channels cut into the face of the board allow water to drain away. Additionally, a geotextile bonded to the board’s outer surface prevents soil particles from blocking the channels.
