Ingersoll Rand NORMBAU Microban® Antibacterial Protection
The Problem: Bacterial Cross-Contamination via Contact Surfaces
Contact surfaces in sanitary facilities and medical and nursing
institutions are a real problem area. Staff, visitors and patients all
use them, equally, and both the number and successive nature of such
contacts make them almost impossible to control from a hygiene
perspective.
Bacteria will settle on even the smoothest surfaces and in joints of
levers and pull handles. Dampness and warmth in sanitary facilities also
play their part by allowing germ reservoirs to form, so that renewed
contamination is spread each time an object is handled.
The Solution: Built-in Durable Microban Antibacterial Protection
Normbau is the first world-wide manufacturer to offer hardware
fittings with long-lasting effective antibacterial protection treatment.
Microban® antibacterial protection is incorporated into the polymer
structure of the nylon during the production process.
It cannot be washed away, nor rubbed off, and remains continually active
to ensure that the antibacterial effect remains for the duration of the
product’s life cycle.

Embedded in the polymer matrix of the nylon, the active agent is
equally distributed throughout the upper surface area, and provides
continual and reliable protection of germ build-up.
The active agent destroys the structure of the cell membrane by
interfering with a crucial enzyme (FAB 1)
The homogeneous distribution of the agent throughout the product
provides effective and long-lasting prevention of germ build-up
significantly reducing cross-contamination from contact areas – even in
the most inaccessible places.
The vicious circle of continual germ transmission can thereby be broken
in an effective manner.
The active Microban® agent captures hospital germs and destroys the cell
membrane, thereby obstructing the function, growth and regeneration of
these bacteria. This bacteria and fungus-neutralising effect takes place
in a very short space of time.
Human cells and thus the skin, are however unaffected by the workings of
this agent, because they possess a different cell structure with thick
cell walls.
Untreated
Treated
The plastic element that has been treated with the active agent shows
a greatly reduced germ cluster when compared to a similar one that had
not been treated.
Where should it be used?
As well as healthcare facilities, Normbau Antibacterial range with
Microban® can also be applied to schools, department stores and offices.
Two types of products are available to meet your requirements, the
Normbau Nylon line and the Normbau Combi Line, which is an attractive
combination of high-grade stainless steel and nylon.
With its harmonious blend of material and function Normbau offers you
aesthetic design and exceptional stability as a result of integrated
steel cores. With this added benefit of Microban® antibacterial
protection, Normbau brings a new dimension to the functional and
hygienic demands of healthcare.
