Pure Asphalt was established in 1947 and by the year 1952 the company had relocated to Bolton, Lancashire, where we continue to operate today. The company remained a family-run business until 1974, when it was bought by the Wimpey Group, subsequently trading as Pure Asphalt, a division of Wimpey Asphalt and for the next 20 years the company was concerned with both manufacturing and contracting, carrying out mainly road and bridge work using conventional mastic asphalts. In 1994 Pure Asphalt was purchased after a management buy-in. Under the new ownership the company’s activities are divided between manufacturing and its specialist contracting divisions. The contracting arm of Pure Asphalt has moved increasingly towards specialist work in the paving, flooring and hydraulic fields. The company enjoys acknowledged leadership in mastic asphalt innovation and development and plans to remain at the forefront of technology. We were involved from the conceptual stage in the development of polymer modified mastic asphalt and a continuing investment in new technology is a major factor in future planning.
