Jeff Bell, a Yorkshire born glass
artist, established his studio in 1986. Specialising in the design and making of unique cast glass
public
sculptures, furniture and architectural elements such as glass screen, unavailable anywhere else, to clients
throughout the world.
Graduating with a BA Honours degree in three-dimensional design
from Buckinghamshire College in 1983 and has since worked in conjunction
with leading architects internationally. Jeff has gained much praise and
respect for his work by the design press, clients, designers and architects
alike.
He was awarded the RIBA Art In Architecture Award in 1993 and in 1998
invited to exhibit in the prestigious Crafts Council Glass Light and Space
show.
From glass baths to public sculptures and crystal towers to the development of textured glass
panels enveloping an entire building, Jeff is constantly pushing the
boundaries of his hot glass processes and innovative installations.
Making his pieces from raw glass sheets or ingots, often coloured with
enamels, which are placed onto sculpted plaster and fired in the kiln. At
these extreme temperatures the molten glass takes on the shape and texture
of his carved moulds. Due to the nature of kiln formed process every piece
of glass develops its own inner landscape of colours, forms and patterns.
The work, after several days, finally emerges from the kiln with a life of
its own.
Jeff responds to each commission individually for its own unique qualities offering him
the opportunity to explore and develop his skills, inspirations and ideas
as they develop with the client.
Jeff Bell Glass Casts work to date include such diverse projects as a lead
crystal spiral staircase, a four metre high sculptured vortex of embossed
crystal bowls, and three-storey high glass 'water-dragon' fountain.
