SSQ was established in 1983 as a pioneer importer of Spanish Slate to the UK and has since grown to become one of the world's leading producers and suppliers of natural slate roofing and architectural products.

With a turnover of £20 million, SSQ produces and exports almost 70,000 tonnes of natural slate every year - enough to cover 2 million square meters of roof.

Forging permanent, exclusive partnerships with some of the world's finest quarries, SSQ provides a reliable supply of the highest quality slate floor tiles and slate roof tiles. SSQ's strong presence at source enables stringent quality control procedures at every stage of the process from extraction through to delivery. SSQ's partner quarries produce Del Carmen and Matacouta slates, which are of the highest quality.

Natural Slate

Since ancient times, natural slate has been appreciated for the uniquely practical material it is. Easily split into durable, individual slates, and requiring no further maintenance it has always proved an invaluable friend to those needing shelter.

SSQ produce Riverstone from their wholly owned subsidiary, San Luis Slate in Argentina. This quarry produces both Riverstone slate roof tiles and Riverstone architectural stone.

In Europe, SSQ is one of the top three suppliers in Germany - the most demanding, quality conscious market on the continent. Other European export destinations include France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Eastern European markets of the Czech Republic, Latvia and Slovakia. SSQ Europe, based in Luxembourg, handles all West and East European activities.

Outside Europe, SSQ’s largest market in the USA, while Australia and Japan are also important buyers. Dedicated to supplying only proven quality slates, all SSQ products are tested to meet a range of international standards.

Samples of all products are tested to the relevant section of British Standards, and the flagship products are tested to the French, German, Belgian and American standards. Del Carmen and Riverstone slates are rated French Class A and American S1.
